Barrhead Travel has been bought by one of the largest US travel agency companies for an undisclosed sum.
Travel Leaders Group sees the deal for the Scottish independent as a way to boost its presence in Europe.
Barrhead was founded in 1975 with one shop in Renfrewshire by Bill Munro. It now employs more than 900 people and has 70 locations across Scotland and the north of England.
Travel Leaders, which has its headquarters in New York, has gross travel sales of close to $21 billion annually and thousands of agents across North America, Greece, Ireland, Australia and the UK. In the UK it trades under the Colletts Travel, Protravel International and Tzell UK brands.
