THOMASVILLE — Thomas County Central softball was able to make its playoff series against Wayne County competitive by forcing a deciding Game 3 in the first round of the state playoffs, but the home Yellow Jackets could not get its offense going to save its season, leading to a 10-0 loss in five innings on Thursday afternoon.
Wayne had issues taking advantage of scoring opportunities in the early innings of Game 1, but had no such issues in the game that mattered most. It scored on a double and a wild pitch to put Central down 2-0 after one.
Despite an Emily Greek double in the second, Central could not answer in time for Wayne’s next half inning, where it added two more by way of a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and an RBI groundout.
Wayne put the game away for good in the bottom of the fourth, with six runners crossing the plate on four hits and a walk.
Anna Greek, Katelyn Hobbs and Emily Greek each notched a hit for Central. Brianna Doughty pitched all five innings, striking out one.
