HAMILTON Hill-based designer Karla Reyes will be one of several locals to showcase their work as part of the Model Camp Australia’s Pretty Little Labels event in Fremantle on December 9.

The 34-year-old “Veron Atelier” designer, who has been working with her sister Debbie van Goethem on their eco-friendly surf and luxurious swimwear label for three years, said she was excited to show off her first collection Amphitrite.

“The inspiration was taken from Greek mythology around Amphitrite, the ocean queen goddess who married Poseidon, king of the ocean,” Ms Reyes said.

“Amphitrite is described as ultra feminine and strong-willed, which is what the collection is all designed around. My sister and I love the ocean. We both used to go surfing together with my brother as kids. Our start-up label made sense to develop swimsuits for surfing without having the heavy logos that are not so feminine or subtle.

“Veron Atelier is designed for the modern and athletic woman that not only loves the water but enjoys wearing multi-functional swimwear either for lounging around in at the beach or surfing.

“Expect to see ultra sexy resort bikinis, full pieces, surf rashies and full pieces in orange, pinks, blues, whites and burnt nude hues with Brazilian risque ’90s cut bottoms with modern feminine sensibility.”

Model Camp Australia director Yasmin Walter said she was excited to hold a fashion show dedicated to supporting WA brands.

“We are going for a mini festival vibe; think food truck, market bazaar, entertainment and fashion shows,” Mrs Walter said.

“The beautiful Fremantle characteristics of the building and its surrounds will definitely set a great summer vibe.”

The night will also play host to The Market Hub, offering an opportunity for attendees to buy items off the runway.
