He’s gone from chunk to hunk and proved the bullies wrong.

Sam Bennett has undergone an incredible body transformation and his ripped physique is a world away from his teenage years when he was mercilessly bullied because he was overweight.

Today the beefy 22-year-old from Solihull has achieved his dream of becoming a champion bodybuilder.

For he scooped the prestigious NAC Open UK Junior Body Building Championships in Manchester last month which then qualified the fitness fan for the world championships in Barcelona on May 20 where he gained sixth place.

Same, from Dorridge, said: “When I was overweight I always looked up to guys like Hercules in Greek mythology and film actors such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone – I dreamed of looking like that.

“I now love the discipline and dedication involved and the healthy lifestyle.

A former pupil of Arden School in Knowle, the Birmingham Airport security guard said he was 14 when he decided to lose weight.

“I started to starve myself which is completely the wrong approach and I suggest that any young people looking to lose weight should start exercising and eating healthily as they are still growing.

“I’m 15 stone 5lb now and at my heaviest at 10 years old I was 13-and-a- half.

“I was called names nearly everyday and had cruel nicknames and was made to feel terrible about my appearance.”

Pumped-up Sam is now on a mission to bag the top spot at the bodybuilding world championships in the Philippines next year.

He trains every day at Ultimate Fitness in Birmingham for 90 minutes and when bulking up for a contest he endures a gruelling routine which includes up to two hours cardio as well as sticking to a high protein, low fat and low carb diet with plenty of vegetables.

“When trying to put on muscle I increase my carbohydrates and healthy fat intake but I am relaxed with my diet after a show and have a well earned break,” he added.

And the softly-spoken powerhouse has plenty of support from mum Cheryl and younger siblings Tara and Will as well as his long-term girlfriend Michelle Masters.

“They are all proud of me and Michelle is my training partner as well.

Sam said: “Hopefully those suffering with body issues and doubts can see my story and be motivated to know that they can do anything they set their mind to.

“The best thing you can do is prove people wrong and make a positive change
